UVA Miller Center Panel Discusses CIA Interrogation Practices

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The CIA and the question of torture took center stage at the University of Virginia Miller Center Friday afternoon.

A panel of speakers reacted to a December 2014 study released by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. That study details some disturbing and controversial CIA detention and interrogation practices.

Professor Richard Immerman says this needs to be an ongoing discussion beyond Friday's event.

"I think this is a national conversation that has to take place. Not just here at the Miller Center, or the University of Virginia, but throughout the United States. I think it lamentable that it's not a conversation that I think will take place," he said.

Prof. Immerman says America's involvement in this type of behavior cost us tremendously, and far outweighs any benefits derived.
