Search for Zawhorodny ContinuesPosted: Updated:
VERONA, Va. (AP) - Police are searching for a Lyndhurst man under state psychiatric care who walked away from a halfway house.
The Augusta County Sheriff's Office tells media outlets that Mark T. Zawhorodny is wanted on misdemeanor charges of violating conditions of his release.
He was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 2000 slayings of his brother and 14-year-old nephew. He spent 14 years in a state mental hospital before his release to the halfway house in Chesterfield last year.
The sheriff's office says the 50-year-old Zawhorodny was last seen at the halfway house on Sunday night.
