Virginia Department of Transportation Press Release:

What: The Virginia Department of Transportation will host a public hearing on the proposed construction of a roundabout at Routes 15 and 53 in Fluvanna County. At the open house-style meeting the public can review project plans, ask questions and obtain information about the project's timeline, cost and travel impacts, as well as provide feedback.

For those who cannot attend, VDOT has created a video that covers much of what was shared at the hearing:youtu.be/p1DJ9Ec-LK0.

When: Thursday, Jan. 15, 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Where: Fluvanna County Public Library, 2014 Commons Blvd, Palmyra

Background: VDOT proposes to replace the existing “T” intersection at Routes 15 and 53 with a single-lane roundabout for improved safety and mobility. This project is consistent with Fluvanna County's comprehensive plan.

The project's estimated cost is $2.6 million, to be funded with local and state monies through VDOT's revenue-sharing program. Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2016 and last approximately six months, requiring periodic lane closures.

Approximately 6,500 vehicles use this segment of Route 15 daily, according to 2013 data. The traffic count on Route 53 is 5,000 vehicles per day.

Public comments will be taken at the hearing and can also be submitted to John Rose, Project Manager, 1601 Orange Road, Culpeper, VA 22701, john.rose1@vdot.virginia.gov. The comment deadline is Jan. 26.

More information about the project, including the public hearing brochure, comment sheet and displays, can be found on VDOT's website at http://www.virginiadot.org/projects/culpeper/15-53roundabout.asp.
