Charlottesville Dems Recommend Hemenway for Electoral Board
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -
The Charlottesville Democratic Committee is looking to shake up the city's electoral board. The group voted to recommend Anne Hemenway to be the board's newest member. Hemenway would replace Joan Schatzman who led the board during a time that saw the city's voter registrar resign after being charged with misuse of public funds.
Hemenway works for the National Legal Research Group and has served as an election observer.
“It takes a lot of time and effort because you're there for the entire day in the polling place on Election Day just like election officers are. And it really speaks to her interest, I think, in ensuring the proper administration of elections,” said Erin Monaghan of the Charlottesville Democratic Committee.
While the committee can recommend candidates, Charlottesville Circuit Court ultimately appoints the new electoral board member.
