STAB Football Ready for Rematch in State Finals

Posted: Updated:

The St. Anne's-Belfield football team will play for a state championship Friday night, as the Saints host Trinity Episcopal in the VISAA state finals.

STAB advanced to the championship match by beating Nansemond-Suffolk 40-24 last week.

The Saints are 10-1 this year, while the Titans are 7-4.

Saint Anne's is riding an eight-game win streak, which started with a 54-14 victory against Trinity when these teams played back in mid-September.

Head coach John Blake says, "From that point in the season, they made a big run. The only team they lost to is St. Christopher's out of Richmond. They're hot. They have a lot of talented guys. It's pretty much all the same guys, I just think they are playing a lot better."

Senior WR/DB Rob Schotta adds, "Playing a team that you beat before, you're a little cocky, but that's what you don't want to be. You want to go in there like you never beat them before. A clean state, because they're good. They're a good team."

STAB and Trinity kickoff Friday at seven o'clock at Saint Anne's.
