Posted: Updated:

Former UVa baseball standout Tyler Wilson has been named the Baltimore Orioles' minor league Pitcher of the Year.   The 24-year old won the Jim Palmer award given to the top minor leaguer in the organization.

Wilson had a record of 14-8 this season pitching in Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk.   He had an ERA of 3.67.   Wilson struck out 157 batters and walked just 43.

Wilson selected by the Orioles in the 10th round of the 2011 MLB draft.

Wilson said, " to walk out on the field and kind of take it in, realize what's ahead, that's exciting."

Wilson will head to Sarasota, Florida to work out with about a dozen other players in case they're needed for the Orioles later this month.
