204-Unit Apartment Complex to Open near Augusta Health

Posted: Updated:

New housing is on its way to a part of Augusta County that's already seeing some major growth.

Site work is underway in Fishersville right across from the Augusta Health campus. The development is also right next to Mary Baldwin College's new Murphy Deming campus. From county leaders to developers and even people at the hospital, there's a lot of excitement.

Rob Stockhausen, one of the chief developers for the new Goose Creek apartments, is bringing a familiar design with him - one just like the Stone Creek apartments in Albemarle County.

“We are doing site work right now, it's fully improved, funding is in place, and construction is starting,” Stockhausen said.

With 22 acres, 204 units, a pool and a movie theater, it's a substantial complex. And it's right in the heart of the fast-growing Lifecore Drive in Fishersville across the street from Augusta Health.

“It's right here on the corridor, if any of our employees who are physicians want to live nearby,” said Kathleen Heatwole, vice president of planning and development for Augusta Health.

And for students at Mary Baldwin's new Murphy Deming campus, it will be a short walk from class to home.

“A living, learning community, where our students could literally live directly above our campus, get up in the morning, stone's throw away,” said David Mowen, executive vice president for finance and administration at Mary Baldwin.

Meanwhile, at Augusta County's central office, Goose Creek is more than just a simple construction project; it's part of a trend.

“Commercial, residential development goes hand in hand. We see that area as a growth area. I think we're going to continue to see pieces come together and really fill out that growth corridor,” said Amanda Glover, director of economic development for Augusta County.

As for when the new apartments will open up, Stockhausen says the first round of complexes should be available by next summer, the rest by the end of 2015.
