Special Election Proposed to Decide Town of Columbia's Fate

Posted: Updated:

Voters will likely decide the future of a tiny town along the James River in Fluvanna County.

Columbia Town Council is asking Fluvanna supervisors to order a special election to dissolve its status as a town. That would allow voters to decide by referendum whether to repeal Columbia's 226-year-old charter.

The county registrar estimates it would cost up to $4,000 - which the town would reimburse.

A special election could be scheduled for early next year.
