Driving into downtown Charlottesville will soon be a bit more colorful.
A new wall mural is set to be painted along the 200 block of West Market Street just off Ridge McIntire Road. The group that proposed it hopes the scene of cyclists can add character to the street and encourage people to take two wheels instead of four.
"We thought any mural that would be featured in such an obvious place would have to have a theme that would be civic in nature, and so, we thought bicycling, which is something I do, I commute to work every day by bicycle, was the appropriate theme,” said Mark Quigg, who helped propose the new mural.
The Board of Architectural Review approved the plans earlier this month, and painting should begin soon.
The group hopes the new mural will be finished by mid-October.
