Ridgeview Park Parking Lot to Close for Construction

Posted: Updated:

A parking lot at Ridgeview Park is closing for the next two months in an effort to filter storm water runoff.

Waynesboro is entering phase two of restoring riverfront parks. A $160,000 grant is paying to retrofit the parking lot to install biofilters. The city is also using the money to replace concrete along the river's edge with grass and plantings.

"Anything that comes out of a vehicle, also silt that comes from baseball fields or dirt on the parking lot - all of that stuff eventually ends up in the South River. These biofilters will filter that out and hopefully have clean water into the river instead of polluted water,” said Dwayne Jones, director of Waynesboro Parks and Recreation.

All park amenities will remain open, but you might have to walk a little bit farther.
