CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – August 20, 2014 – One week after announcing the acquisition of the Charlottesville Parking Center, Inc. (CPC), Mark Brown has announced a price reduction for day parkers in the flat lot adjacent to the Water Street Parking Garage.
Beginning on September 1, parking rates Mondays through Fridays between the hours of 6AM and 6PM will be reduced from $2.50 to $2.00. The move will coincide with the introduction of an automated parking system in the lot.
“Like everyone else, I heard the rumblings and concern that this acquisition would result in higher prices for parking,” Brown said. “As I have clearly said, the truth is that my ultimate goal is to bring more people downtown, not to make it harder for them to come down here, and that is the rationale behind this move.”
Brown, a Charlottesville investor who also owns the Main Street Arena, the building that houses the restaurants The Whiskey Jar and Brookville, and Yellow Cab of Charlottesville, completed the $13.8 million deal to purchase the privately held CPC on August 12. CPC owns the land utilized for the Water Street Parking Garage along with 284 of the garage parking spaces and the adjacent surface lot. In addition, CPC manages the city-owned Market Street Parking Garage.
