Charlottesville police have released the identity of a suspect in a brutal stabbing in Charlottesville that sent a man to the hospital Tuesday afternoon.
Robert Sherwood Shrieves, 58, has been charged with felonious assault.
The stabbing took place in broad daylight at a busy intersection near the University of Virginia Tuesday shortly after 3 p.m. When police arrived on scene they found a man with multiple stab wounds to his chest.
Police are remaining tight lipped about the investigation but say there is no threat to the community.
“This was an isolated incident that occurred here and obviously not something that's a normal occurrence in this area. Being an isolated incident there's no fear for the community or this particular area,” said Lt. Ronnie Roberts with the Charlottesville Police Department.
We still don't have an update on the condition of the victim, but we do know that he is still in the hospital.
Shrieves is scheduled to appear in court on October 2 at 2 p.m.
