Third Annual Bike Walk Play JPA Encourages People to Get Outside

Posted: Updated:

Children, dogs, and even sheep came out to play on Jefferson Park Avenue in Charlottesville Saturday.

The third annual Bike, Walk, Play JPA kicked off with a fun run, bike decorating, and games, including a life size foosball using hay bales and PVC pipe.

A petting zoo included sheep and a puppet show was set up for families to enjoy. Event organizers encourage people who live in the neighborhood to get outside.

Fry Springs Neighborhood Association Member Hillary Bracken said, "That they can bike and walk along the street and get where they need to go using other modes of transportation than cars is also valuable, just in a more global sense."

Bike, Walk, Play is coordinated by the Fry's Spring Neighborhood Association, with the Beach Club, City of Charlottesville and the University of Virginia. They plan to keep doing the event each year on the Saturday before school starts in the city.
