CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) - You can enjoy time by the pool this weekend and support families of children with cancer at the same time. The sixth annual "Splash for a Cure" fundraiser will be held Saturday at the ACAC Adventure Central Waterpark in Charlottesville.

Mayank and Sejal Gala started the Ishan Gala Foundation in 2008 after they lost their first son to neuroblastoma. Every year, they've teamed up with ACAC to raise money for the cause and honor Ishan's memory.

The Galas came up with the idea for a pool party event because Ishan loved coming to the waterpark and his birthday was in August. He lost his battle with cancer when he was just two years old.

The couple uses their personal tragedy to try and help kids currently fighting the disease. The Ishan Gala Foundation supports research specifically for neuroblastoma and provides financial assistance to families that are in need during their children's treatments.

Mayank Gala, Ishan's father, said, “I spent 8 months in a hospital in New York City, watching my son fight cancer and when you live in that world and you see what these children go through, it becomes part of your cause and purpose to see a difference in these children's lives.”

"Splash for a Cure" usually raises about $30,000 for the cause each year. This year's event will feature lots of games, raffle prizes, and a DJ.

The pool party will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday. Click here to buy tickets online. The cost is $15 for adults and $10 dollars for children. All proceeds will benefit the Ishan Gala Foundation and its research initiatives.
