Waynesboro Seeks Input on Federal Spending within City

Posted: Updated:

The city of Waynesboro wants your input, during a public hearing Monday night, on how it should spend federal dollars over the next few years.

In past years, the city has spent federal grants on neighborhoods like the one along Arch Avenue and Market Avenue in the downtown area, which has always been flood prone. The city has used the money to help people upgrade kitchens or add ramps for disabled neighbors.

City leaders say they've seen major improvements.

"We've seen a lot of other homes down there, putting money and renovating homes beyond the ones that were part of the program and I think generally the whole neighborhood looks a lot better than it did a few years ago,” said city planner Michael Barnes.

The federal dollars will help fund projects for the city through 2018. The public hearing Monday night is part of the regular City Council meeting. It starts at 7 p.m.
