The question as to who will be the starter under center for Virginia Tech in 2014 still remains.

Head coach Frank Beamer isn't showing his hand as to who is leading the group, but he expressed that landing Texas Tech junior Michael Brewer was a big get for the Hokies.

"Hey this kids for real and started for texas tech...which is a great program."

There will be somewhat of a transition for Brewer.

He will have to learn an entirely new offense, but the Junior transfer didn't seem too worried about switching from a spread to a pro style offense.

"Being in the shotgun since high school and then you know at texas tech...its a little bit different having to get under center here at Virginia Tech but I'm learning it. It comes naturally."

The Hokies have always had great defenses in seasons pst and this year that side of the ball looks predicated on speed.

With so many college teams switching to spread offenses, Detrick Bonner highlighted the importance of playing fast on defense.

"When the ball is going out to the perimeter a lot...we need guys to run to the ball like Daddi Nicholas and.... get to the ball quick and make those plays and I think its very beneficial for us that we got great speed and I think we're going to play well with it this year."

The bar is always set high  in Blacksburg and while the Hokies are coming off an 8-5 season, that's not the expectation that these players and coaches set for themselves in 2014.

Beamer made it clear that winning the conference is as important as ever this year with the new college football playoff in place.

"Well our goals are to win the acc championship, and when you win that now you're definitely a player in the four man field for a National Championship."
