A Charlottesville man will soon realize his dream of opening a bar and gaming business in the city.
Mark Weber was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, and has been undergoing chemotherapy to treat a malignant tumor. He says the illness gave him the inspiration to start the new business he calls Firefly.
He says it is the kind of place he always wanted to see in the city, and there's no time like the present to make it happen.
"Basically when I got sick I wanted a place to go play pool and I couldn't really think of one. And so I wanted a place that had all the games, all the stuff that I wanted. Cancer was a wake-up call to do the things I always wanted to do, so my girlfriend found a listing for this and then I bought it two days after I saw it," he stated.
Weber is two weeks into renovating the space located at the corner of Meade and Market Street. He says he's only waiting on the ABC to clear his liquor license, and expects to open sometime next month.
