ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -

A group of volunteers in Crozet is collecting donations to build a place for dogs to frolic and play leash-free.

Kim Guenther is leading the fundraising effort to create a dog park in Claudius Crozet Park. The one-acre spot next to the baseball field will be fenced in so dog owners can let their four-legged friends run.

The group needs to raise $34,000 to clear brush, landscape, and put up the fence.

“If you come to the park any day of the week, you'll find people running around with their dog. When people want to take their dog to a fenced-in park, we have to go all the way to Charlottesville. There are two parks there and they're wonderful. But especially on the weekends, people who live in Crozet want to stay in Crozet,” said Kim Guenther, Crozet dog park organizer.

Starr Hill Brewery in Crozet is hosting a "Pints for Pups" fundraiser Saturday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. One dollar from every beer purchased will go toward the dog park.
