Steering Committee discusses West Main improvements
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -
There was more talk Wednesday morning about development on West Main Street. Charlottesville's Neighborhood Development Department says, with one apartment complex almost complete, and two more on the way, parking on West Main is the biggest issue.
The West Main Steering Committee met Wednesday morning in City Hall to go over several issues concerning the design of the road, and what will be most important for City Council members to consider.
"We know that parking is something we've got to address, and that's the real issue is how we deal with that. That's why we're doing a parking at the same time so we can make sure that we've thought about solutions, we come up with ways to deal with parking,” said Jim Tolbert, neighborhood development.
Committee members also say pedestrian improvements are a must. Those include wider sidewalks that are clear of obstructions like trees and signs.
