Waynesboro Beats Covington 4-3; Advances to VBL Championship Series

WAYNESBORO, Va. (WVIR) -

The Waynesboro Generals will have a chance to defend their Valley Baseball League title, after beating Covington 4-3 in Game Three of the VBL semifinals Sunday night.

The Generals won the series opener 6-4, before getting shut out 9-0 in Game Two.

Waynesboro jumped out to a 4-0 lead in Game Three Sunday at Kate Collins Field, and survived a late rally from the Lumberjacks.

Michael McClellan had three hits and two RBI for the Generals.

Kevin Doherty pitched eight innings for Waynesboro, giving up six hits and three runs while striking out five.

The Generals will host Charles Town in the three-game championship series Monday at seven o'clock at Kate Collins Field.
