It may seem too early to start thinking about going back to school, but you may want to knock the school shopping out of the way this weekend.
The state is giving families a sales tax holiday. Stores will nix the taxes on clothing and shoes going for less than $100. All the notebooks, backpacks, pens, and pencils are tax-free.
For retailers, it's a big weekend for sales.
Steve Claffey, the general manager of the Kmart in Waynesboro said "tax-free weekend really kicks off the back-to-school season and I’d say it'd probably be the biggest weekend of the summer and everybody avoids paying taxes on any of the clothing or footwear items they get and any of the stationery items that they get to go to school."
The tax holiday starts Friday, August 1 and goes through Sunday, August 3. Click here for a list of the items that are exempt from taxes during the holiday.
