Culpeper Police Department Press Release

On July 29, 2014 the Culpeper Police Department was called to the 100 block of Commerce Street when it was reported that shots had been fired from the area.

The Culpeper Joint Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call at around 12:00 pm that shots were fired from behind the Depot, adjacent to the train tracks. Officers and Detectives from the Culpeper Police Department, the Culpeper Sheriff's Office and the Virginia State Police arrived and based upon eye witness accounts learned that two subjects were behind the Depot and one of them had fired two shots in the area.

Based upon the investigation, it was determined that the suspects fled into an adjacent apartment building located at 201 Water’s Place. Larry A. Jackson, Jr., age 24, of the 2200 block of Forsythia Drive in Culpeper was located in an apartment at 201 Water’s Place. He was subsequently arrested at the scene.

He was later charged with Discharging a Firearm within a 1,000 Feet of a School, a Class 4 Felony. He is being held at the Culpeper County Jail on a $5000 secured bond.

The motive of the shooting is unclear as this case is still under investigation, although it appears that no one was targeted and there were no injuries.
