Molly Michie Preschool Opens at New Location in Cville
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -
The doors are open at what was Charlottesville’s first integrated preschool in its first new home in 47 years. Molly Michie Preschool is settling into its new space across the street from the University of Virginia.
Molly Michie founded the preschool at Thomas Jefferson Memorial Church in 1967. The church wanted the space back for its future plans - forcing the preschool to move out last month. Now, Molly Michie's two classrooms are open at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church on Emmet Street.
Parents, volunteers, and the school's alumni helped pack, move boxes, clean, and paint over the past few weeks. They're still working to spruce up the playground - with its tree stump path and mud kitchen.
The parent-run co-operative credits the community's support for making the move easier after 47 years in the same location.
“It's an exciting time for the preschool. It's a new fresh start. We certainly were sad to leave the space we had been in for 47 years, but Wesley has welcomed us with open arms. They have been so excited to have us here as well,” said Sheila Chrobak, Molly Michie preschool copresident.
Chrobak says enrollment remains strong at the new location. Molly Michie is still enrolling for this upcoming school year, which starts August 25.
Prospective parents and children can check out the new space. Molly Michie will host an open house and play date next Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon.
