Posted: Updated:

Cyclists from around the region crowded the back roads between Batesville and Crozet Sunday.

The Virginia State and Mid-Atlantic Regional Cycling Championship races started at 8:00 Sunday morning at the Miller School of Albemarle.

Seven groups competed by age and skill level in the 80 mile course. Racing teams from all over the East Coast participated.

Participant R. Muoio said, “The course is lovely. We came down from D.C., my teammate and I on Kelly Benefits Strategies placed first and second place respectively.”

Albemarle County police escorted cyclists along the course and the Albemarle Amateur Radio Club monitored traffic and communications throughout the races.
