Carter Mountain Hosts 4th Annual Old Fashioned Peach Festival

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -

Things were just peachy at Carter Mountain Orchard Sunday, despite the threat of bad weather.

The mountaintop orchard in Albemarle County hosted its 4th annual Old Fashioned Peach Festival. The weekend included games, hay rides, wine tastings, a princess pageant, and pie-eating contest.

The orchard may be best known for apples, but it had plenty of peach products available, from peach ice cream to peach juice, donuts, and pies.

Orchard owner Cynthia Chiles said, "It's the peak of peach season, and we like to celebrate it and let people know that we do have peaches here!"

The orchard grows several hundred peach trees, which means thousands of peaches ripen every summer. They will be ripe for about six more weeks, heading into early September.
