Peace Activists Send Message from Charlottesville to Stop Violence in Gaza
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -
Peace activists are sending a message from Charlottesville to stop the violence in Gaza.
The Charlottesville Center for Peace and Justice, the Charlottesville Islamic Society, and other groups came together for a peace vigil in front of the federal courthouse Saturday night.
Participants held signs and talked with people passing by about the conflict. Organizers say they want to help people a world away from the fighting understand that it affects many of their neighbors here at home.
Evan Knappenberger from the Charlottesville Center for Peace said, "There's a large Jewish community in this community, there's a large Palestinian diaspora community in this area, and the idea to me is that all these people are here right, the conflict comes with them. It's a big world, but it's a small world also."
The group includes both Jewish and Islamic Palestinian members to show it is possible to stand united against this conflict.
