Building Goodness Foundation Press Release:

Building Goodness Foundation (BGF) is pleased to present the 2014 Skip Wootten Volunteer of the Year Award to Paul Ackerman.

Each year, this award recognizes a BGF volunteer who has made outstanding contributions to projects in the Charlottesville area and abroad. Nominations were accepted through July 15 and a committee selected the winner from these submissions.

The award will be announced at the BGF Volunteer Celebration on July 25 (6-8pm) at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (1170 River Road, Charlottesville).

Paul Ackerman is a professional builder who lives in Scottsville with his sons. He began volunteering with BGF in February 2012 on a trip to the Siloe School in Haiti. Paul has been to Haiti 4 times with BGF, both as a leader and volunteer for projects including the CODEP Depot and the Family Health Ministries Women's Health Clinic. He has logged approximately 450 volunteer hours with BGF.

Paul is a dedicated BGF volunteer who embodies the spirit of the Skip Wootten award with his willingness to do whatever is needed, whenever it is needed. Paul is a skilled craftsman and earns the trust and respect of his trip participants. He is dedicated to the BGF mission and in the last year has led an international trip, participated in local BGF projects (such as Building Goodness in April), served as a Volunteer Project Manager for the 2014 local project at Tashi Choeling Buddhist Center, and played an active role on the organization’s Leadership Committee.

ABOUT SKIP WOOTTEN: BGF’s Volunteer of the Year Award is given in honor of the late Francis “Skip” Wootten III, a carpenter who embodied the spirit of community and volunteerism through his work with BGF, the Boy Scouts, his church, and his neighborhood. He served on BGF building projects locally, as well as in Haiti and Guatemala. Through the award, BGF honors Skip’s approach to life and recognizes the outstanding service of a current volunteer.
