Downtown Development to Place Maps throughout Staunton

Posted: Updated:

Visitors to Staunton will now have some help navigating the area on foot.

With city support, the Staunton Downtown Development Association (SDDA) is placing 30 maps in and around downtown Staunton. The maps will tell people where they are and how to get to various attractions like the American Shakespeare Center, the farmers market and the train station.

"If you talk to the merchants in downtown they would like this. I hope they will, because they're constantly giving directions to visitors and tourists. ‘How do I go to... where is this?’ So instead of walking out and pointing and telling them go two blocks and turn right and it's on your left,” said Bill Frazier, architect for the Virginia Main Street program.

The project is under its $5,000 budget. SDDA hopes to put the maps up in early fall for the tourism season.
