CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -

A man already charged with assault and battery now faces a rape charge in Charlottesville.

Josh David Taggart, 28, was charged Wednesday. He was arrested earlier this month following a domestic incident. Upon further investigation, police also charged him with rape.

Taggart has been behind bars since he was arrested.

UPDATE:  Taggart entered alford pleas to four charges, sexual battery, abduction by force or intimidation, strangulation resulting in injury, and assault and battery of a family member in October 2015. A judge sentenced Taggart to spend two and half years behind bars and suspended the rest of his 17-year sentence. He will be on probation upon his release.
