Wal-Mart Offers Savings Event for Teacher Appreciation Week
School supplies at Wal-Mart
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -
Stores across central Virginia are stocking up on classroom supplies with this next school year just around the corner.
Teachers in the Charlottesville area have a chance to save by shopping at Wal-Mart next week. The corporation is celebrating educators across the country through its Teacher Appreciation Week starting on Friday.
For the first time in company history, Wal-Mart is giving back through a special savings event. Teachers who shop for supplies at the store in Albemarle County can receive a Wal-Mart eGift Card for 10 percent back on nearly 15,000 different products.
If you teach kindergarten through 12th grade, the process is simple. After you buy the classroom supplies at the store, you have to log onto www.walmart.com/teachers by August 15 to register the receipts. Then 10 percent of savings on eligible items will be delivered on an eGift Card via email within two weeks of submitting the slips online.
“It's definitely important that we try and take care of our teachers,” said Vince Moses, a shift manager at the Wal-Mart store in Albemarle County. “We know that funding has been cut down a lot within the past couple of years, so we as a company are doing everything we can to reach out to make sure that teachers are supplied in their classrooms.”
General supply lists for different schools in the area are available in the store.
The company also offers an online tool called “Classrooms by Wal-Mart” where teachers can create and post customized supply lists.
Wal-Mart's Teacher Appreciation Week will run through Thursday, July 31.
The Albemarle County store will also be hosting a "Fill the Bus" supply drive starting on August 1 for that statewide sales tax-free weekend.
