A Charlottesville landmark is gone and police are looking for the culprit. The white clock that hangs near the corner of 2nd and Water streets disappeared overnight Monday.

Workers say it looks like the culprits sawed off the clock. The clock has a white face and black hands. It is a gallery-style electric clock.

The clock hung in front of the store for about 34 years.

“I think every waiter and kitchen worker in the downtown area glances at it as they arrive at work to see if they are on time and maybe they look at it as they leave to see how late they worked,” said Donna Bonsignore, Clock Shop of Virginia office manager.

A sign that hung below the clock was also taken.

The clock is valued at about $1,000, but store owners say it is priceless to them and they want it back.

Police are checking nearby surveillance cameras for leads.
