ABC Opens Stores in Fishersville, Stuarts Draft

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -

People in Augusta County have some new options when it comes to buying their liquor. Two new ABC stores officially opened their doors Friday.

Before, people in Stuarts Draft and Fishersville had to drive to Waynesboro to find the closest ABC store, but those drives are no longer necessary.

ABC cut the ribbon on the two new stores Friday - one in Fishersville and one in Stuarts Draft. The stores held brief ceremonies and now are open for shopping.

ABC's chairman, Jeff Painter, says a lot of analysis went into the decision to add the new stores. “There's actually a real need to have a store here and it's a modern store, it's a place where you want to shop and you want to look around,” Painter said.

ABC stores are big business for the state; in 2013 the stores averaged more than $400,000 of profit per store.
