Virginia Department of Transportation Press Release

CULPEPER —The Virginia Department of Transportation is preparing to begin a bridge rehabilitation project on Route 647 (McMullen Mill Road) in Greene County. The bridge is located 0.1 mile west of Route 637 (South River Road) in Stanardsville and spans the South River.

The project will require several short-term closings of Route 647 over the next month. The first is scheduled for Wednesday, July 23 from 9 a.m. to noon for VDOT to use a crane to install a temporary pedestrian bridge that will remain in place for the duration of the project.

During this and other upcoming closures, there will be no vehicular access on Route 647 past the bridge. VDOT is coordinating with first responders to ensure no disruptions to emergency services while the road is closed.

According to a 2008 traffic count, 220 vehicles use Route 647 daily.
