People and puppets took to the stage at the University of Virginia’s Ruth Caplin Theatre Thursday for the second day of rehearsals on the full set for the Tony award-winning production of “Avenue Q.”

The musical is one of several summer shows in the Heritage Theatre Festival's 40th anniversary season.

Working with puppets is new for many cast members.

"Not only are you working with the blocking and the memorization of the lines and the songs, but you also have another appendage and you have to make that appendage breathe and talk and he's actually the character and morph it into one person rather than seeing two people,” said Patrick Bishop, performer.

The production is recommended for adult audiences and will run from July 22 until August 2.
