2nd Community Meeting to be held on Albemarle Firearms Training Center

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Albemarle County unveils its plans for a new regional firearms training center Thursday night. The county will be hosting the second community meeting on the new training center at the East Rivanna Volunteer Fire Company from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Thursday’s meeting will give community members an update on the developing project in eastern Albemarle. People who attend will get to review design concepts for the facility.

The new center is aimed at training and educating people on the use of firearms. One goal is to improve the safety and effectiveness of area law enforcement agencies.

The construction and operations of the facility will be funded through a partnership between Albemarle County, the city of Charlottesville, and the University of Virginia. The proposed site on Milton Road currently houses an outdoor firing range, which is owned and used by UVA. The county says the new center will also allow multiple agencies to train together in preparation for joint responses.

A third meeting will be held next month to review results of a sound study conducted as part of the project.
