A theater in downtown Staunton is shutting its doors for good. The Dixie Theatre on East Beverley Street will be closing at the end of the month.

It’s one of two independent movie theaters in downtown Staunton.

The Staunton Performing Arts Center has been leasing the building to the Dixie and says it's a purely-business decision - but the theater will be going out in style.

"The Dixie as it's being used now is going to have a weekend of old films, kind of a summer fling. Come enjoy your memories at the Dixie, and Adam Greenbaum will then be closing the doors in showing movies,” said Mary Kivlighan, a member of the Staunton Performing Art Center Board of Directors.

The building will still be used as a performing arts venue.
