Riding to work on bicycle could be an option for people in Augusta County within the next few years. A new trail is in the works that would run between the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville and Expoland a couple of miles down the road.
The trail would run right past the Augusta Health campus and across Interstate 64. There's already roadwork going on at the I-64 interchange in Fishersville, and plans have the trail going through that spot.
"If you were to break this project out into thirds, two phases about two and a half miles long currently under construction, one part being along our Exit 91 project,” said VDOT planner Terry Short.
The county still has to apply for funding to go toward part of the path, and VDOT says it will be more than two years before the entire two and a half-mile trail can be completed.
