Crews Prep for Traffic Light Installation at Park St & Route 250
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -
A new phase of construction is beginning at the Park Street and Route 250 intersection this week. Crews will be out and police will be directing traffic at the intersection from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday of this week.
For this part of the project, workers are putting down foundations for the traffic lights on Park Street and installing junction boxes. Next month, they will put mast arms in place, which are the bars that hang the traffic lights. After all that's finished, the lights will go up.
"They add a couple of things in that area. One, it's going to ease traffic onto and off of Park Street from the 250 Bypass once this work is done, but also and equally as importantly they are going to add pedestrian crossings with timed countdown lights so it's going to make that area safer for our pedestrians as well as our motorists,” said Miriam Dickler, director of communications for Charlottesville.
These new signals will be up sometime next month, but they will not be fully active until next summer.
