Move2Health Continues to Push for Healthier Lifestyle in Central VA
There are just a couple weeks left to log your minutes in central Virginia’s Move2Health summer challenge.
The campaign encourages people to exercise on a daily basis - but there's also a chance to win prizes by simply posting pictures of your smart food choices.
The effort is based on the goal of moving at least 30 minutes a day, five days a week. Better eating habits are also essential to maintaining that healthy lifestyle - and it could help you get some free stuff.
There’s an extra incentive with the Move2Health summer challenge through sharing pictures of food on social media. Participants take a photo of their healthy fruits and veggies and post it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Pinterest with “#m2hSnackChat”.
Those pictures are then automatically entered into a drawing for different prizes three times a week. Move2Health is teaming up with Charlottesville’s upcoming Restaurant Week to promote healthy options.
Christine Thalwitz, ACAC Vice President of Marketing, said, “We like to think of a healthful lifestyle in terms of balancing, so it's a long-term proposition. It's looking at all things in moderation and just making good choices for eating, for movement and they all balance out in the long-run for better health.”
There are about 200 organizations and more than 2,000 participants signed up in this second round of the campaign.
“This campaign is just encouraging a lifestyle change. It's not a quick fix. It's something that we should be doing every day, not just to be a certain body size, but just to help us be as healthy as we can be,” said Elizabeth Beasley, a senior health promotions consultant for the Thomas Jefferson Health District.
As of Tuesday morning, more than 482,000 minutes moved have been logged in our community. The Move2Health summer campaign runs until July 31.
