A new senior center is open in Fluvanna County.

The Fluvanna County’s Parks and Recreation Department hosted an open house in the Veterans for Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8169 on Route 6 near Scottsville Monday.

The VFW is donating its facility for the new Cunningham District Senior Center. The center will open every Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to give seniors a place to socialize and do activities.

“All seniors are different. They have different needs. Some are more active than others. So, we want them to tell us what they would like to see in the senior center,” said Jonathan Pace, Fluvanna County Parks & Rec programs specialist.

The Jefferson Area Board for Aging currently operates the only senior center in Fluvanna. It runs programs on Tuesday and Wednesday in Fork Union.

The county's parks and rec department is looking at opening another center in Palmyra in the future.
