According to Commonwealth's Attorney Kenneth Alger, charges are on the way for a Page County woman accused of keeping 135 dogs and four parrots in deplorable conditions.
On July 03, deputies served a search warrant to Lennis Atkins at a home on Mill Creek Crossroads in Luray. Deputies say they found a puppy mill with dozens of neglected animals. Some were in such bad condition that it rose to the level of cruelty.
Alger says he will file charges once he gets the final report from a state veterinarian.
As of Monday, all the animals are with rescue groups that will adopt them out. The Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA took in nine dogs, and so far, five of them have found new homes.
