Summer Pie Picnic Raises Money to Make Charlottesville More Eco-Friendly
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
The Better World Betty Organization held a summer pie picnic Sunday in Charlottesville to raise money for eco-friendly efforts around town.
The highlight of the day was the pie toss. Better World Betty founder Teri Kent was the target. The picnic also included a pie tasting, raffle, and live music.
Kent says you can't save the planet on an empty stomach, so this was a fun way to share some ideas to go green at the same time.
"We have an eco-table of making your own detergent and how to do that, how to turn a t-shirt into a reusable bag, for the grocery store, so it's all about having fun while saving the planet, and hopefully saving some money at the same time,” said Kent.
Proceeds from Sunday’s picnic are going toward three efforts. Those include incorporating eco-ideas into Albemarle County schools, starting a new recycling task force, and funding next year's better business challenge.
