SPCA Hosts Training Program for Fostering a Shelter Animal

Posted: Updated:

The Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA is training people to provide temporary homes for pets.

This training program showed participants the basics of fostering a shelter animal.

Cats and dogs need fostering for different reasons, and for different lengths of times.

The SPCA says the most important thing is that foster families are patient and responsible during the time they're caring for an animal.

CASPCA Employee, Laura Jones, said, “it is probably the most heart-warming thing you can do, um, to help an animal find its way home, nobody can adopt every animal, that's not practical, so the only way is to let take them into your home for a little while, help them get better or older or whatever it is they need.”

Many of the animals that need fostering are simply too young to be spayed or neutered, are recovering from medical treatments, or need behavioral help.

Foster training sessions happen almost every month at the SPCA.
