Peace Walk Held after Third Homicide in Three Months
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
People marched Friday night to bring an end to the recent violence in the city of Charlottesville.
There have been three homicides in just three months, the most recent last weekend.
"This is the third one in a matter of three months in a 10-and-a-half-square-mile town,” said Wes Bellamy, who organized the peace walk.
Friday, people marched and chanted for peace along Prospect Avenue. Before they marched they prayed around a makeshift memorial for Otis Scott, shot and killed on Prospect last Sunday.
People also came out to honor Antonio Washington and Oscar Brown killed just a week apart back in May.
"I have not had the strength to get out and do it but I'm here today and I'm still standing and I want to thank everybody for their acts of kindness and being there to support me and my family,” said Oscar Brown’s mother, Aretha Brown.
After the march people also signed up to participate in a neighborhood watch.
