The Northside team from Charlottesville lost 16-6 against Rockville in the Cal Ripken Baseball State Tournament Friday morning at Hollymead Elementary School.

Northside held the early lead, but Rockville scored eleven unanswered runs, including seven in the 4th inning to invoke the mercy rule.

The local squad is knocked out of the double elimination tournament, after losing its opener 11-1 against Glen Allen Thursday morning.

Charlottesville is hosting the state tournament for the first time.

Nine of the best teams from all over the commonwealth are participating, with a spot in the Regional playoffs in Tennessee on the line.

The Virginia state championship game will be played Sunday at 11:30 AM at Carson Raymond Field at Hollymead, with an If Necessary game Monday at 6 PM.
