Charlottesville Fire Department Using Social Media to Hire
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
Charlottesville's fire department is turning to a creative way to recruit new blood within the ranks.
The department is using social media to hire firefighters, promoting job openings on Facebook and Twitter. It's paying off because it’s completely free.
The latest hire at the Charlottesville Fire Department came from social media, and another opening hit the Internet Friday.
The department is seeing a response from around the state. Battalion Chief Richard Jones says social media has redefined how the department conducts business and will use it as an advantage.
"Through the social media and the Twitter and Facebook it may draw in other folks that haven't given the career a thought, where they can read about what we're doing, the types of things the department does and get more information,” Jones said.
Jones says social media allows the department to target potential employees in the range of 18 to 40 years old.
In addition to job openings, the Fire Department uses social media to tell its story and keep the community aware of any emergency information.
