PLACE Design Task Force Discusses Best Buy Ramp Project

Posted: Updated:

The Best Buy ramp project along Route 29 is facing some challenges - but Charlottesville’s PLACE Design Task Force spent Thursday considering some solutions.

Construction of the ramp is one of the projects grouped into an improvement package for Route 29 approved by the Commonwealth Transportation Board last month.

A preliminary study of the ramp project found that it might make things too noisy for people living nearby. Task force members considered designs of new sound walls from Virginia Department of Transportation representatives.

"The results of the preliminary study indicate if walls may be warranted, and then once the design progresses, as it is now and they're going over in today's meeting, they look at the specific design features to determine where the walls need to go to impact or reduce the impacts of noise on the residents,” said John Lynch, VDOT Culpeper administrator.

VDOT staff say if a sound wall option is chosen, they'll discuss how to make it look more attractive.
