Supervisors to Review Earlysville Road Traffic Study Proposal

Posted: Updated:

Albemarle County is trying to collect traffic data to back up a proposal from more than a dozen neighborhoods to ban big-rigs on Earlysville Road.

Fifteen neighborhoods are requesting the county restrict through-trucks on Earlysville between Hydraulic Road and Dickerson Road. That would require Virginia Department of Transportation approval.

The county wants to count traffic, review accident statistics, and talk to businesses that use Earlysville Road as a trucking route.

“Collecting the data is going to be really important, because that's what VDOT is going to be looking at. You really can't make a decision on this based on - well, I think it's dangerous. You have to have the data to back it up,” said Jack Kelsey, Albemarle County transportation engineer.

Supervisors are scheduled to review the traffic study proposal at their meeting Wednesday. Kelsey says the study would take four to six months.
