Albemarle County Police Department Press Release
The Albemarle County Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred this morning on Monacan Trail Road.
At 8:07am, the Fatal Crash Reconstruction Team was called to the 4000 block of Monacan Trail, just south of Plank Road. A small, white pickup truck was traveling north on Monacan Trail when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road. The driver over-corrected and then crossed into the median and hit a tree.
The driver, Stephany Spicer, was pronounced dead at the scene. Spicer was 42 years old and from Lynchburg.
The crash remains under investigation but at this time it does not appear that speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. Driver fatigue may be a causation factor. Spicer was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.
This marks the sixth fatal crash this year in Albemarle County. The ACPD investigated 11 fatal crashes in 2013.
