Murder Suspect Turns Himself in to Charlottesville Police

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -

A suspect in Charlottesville’s second murder of the year has turned himself in to police.

Avery Gray turned himself in Monday. Gray is charged with the first-degree murder of 36-year-old Oscar Nathaniel Brown, who was found shot to death outside an apartment complex on Hardy Drive in the early morning hours of May 17. Brown's family says he was visiting the neighborhood when he was shot.

Also related to this case, Charlottesville police arrested 29-year-old Brittany Deshawna Alamo of Buckingham County. While police say she's not directly responsible for Brown's murder, Alamo apparently helped the prime suspect after it happened. She is charged with being an accessory after the fact and tampering with evidence, but police believe it was Gray who pulled the trigger.

Police have been looking for Gray since mid-May when the shooting occurred. It isn't his first run-in with the law; he's been in trouble for malicious wounding and attempted robbery, among other things, dating back to 1996.
